NBA makes decision on suspending Steph Curry & Demarcus Cousins

Tensions were running high on multiple occasions during Friday’s preseason game between the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers.

Lakers forward Michael Beasley and Draymond Green got physical early in the third quarter and Beasley was ejected after picking up his second technical foul. In addition, Quinn Cook and Lance Stephenson got involved in an altercation where Stephenson was fouled on a drive at the rim and was ejected after he appeared to take a swing at Cook upon being fouled. According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Stephen Curry and DeMarcus Cousins won’t be suspended for leaving the bench during the play after the league determined that it wasn’t an “altercation.”

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry will avoid a suspension for stepping onto the court during what some viewed as an altercation in Friday’s preseason finale against the Los Angeles Lakers, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins, who stepped on the floor with Curry, will also not be penalized, sources said.

Haynes also noted that players that step on the court during an altercation are subject to a one-game suspension. If a suspension was instituted, Curry would’ve missed Golden State’s home opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday. In addition, Cousins would’ve been forced to sit out a game once he returned from a torn Achilles that he suffered last season. The Warriors coaching staff made sure to quickly get Curry and Cousins back to the bench before officials took note of where they were.

It appears that the Warriors will be relatively healthy when the regular season gets underway this week aside from Cousins. Of course, Cousins is expected to miss the first couple months of the season since he tore his Achilles back in January when he was a member of the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Warriors will be getting their championship rings and have their championship banner raised at Oracle Arena. Now they’ll be able to do that at nearly full strength.
