Patrick McCaw has yet to sign his qualifying offer with the Golden State Warriors. Stephen Curry could be angry that one of his teammates still has yet to report to training camp, but instead, Curry is being very supportive of his teammate.
Of course, the Warriors are better with McCaw on their bench, but it’s only fair that the youngster explores all his options. Curry understands this, and there’s clearly no pressure on McCaw from his teammates to return with haste.
The versatile guard brings a much-needed defensive punch off the bench for the Warriors, but he won’t make or break this team. He definitely makes them a better team when he’s on the roster, but the front office can always get creative in finding another player to replace McCaw’s production.
At first glance, his numbers are replaceable. His 4.0 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game don’t look like the type of numbers that will end the Warriors’ dynastic run. But he does much more on the defensive side of the court with his length and ability to guard multiple positions.
There are no concrete reports that McCaw is close to signing with another team. Don’t be surprised if he winds up signing his $1.7 million qualifying offer and returning to make a run for a third straight championship. McCaw has won two championships since entering the NBA, and it’s unclear if he would prioritize another shot at a championship over slightly more money from another team.
Steph Curry very supportive about Pat McCaw. Emphasized Warriors need him, but respectful of McCaw wanting to explore options
