While speculation has been rampant about which current Golden State Warriors star will be staying or going in the near future, one has made his intentions. According to the San Francisco Chronicle’s Connor Letourneau, Draymond Green has no desire to leave the Bay Area team any time soon.
Green is eligible for an extension though he won’t be a free agent until the 2020 offseason. Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, and Demarcus Cousins all will be eligible for free-agency before Green.
Regardless, Green has never wavered on wanting to be with the club.
Drafted in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft, Green has always shown loyalty to the team that took a chance on him. The Warriors have also stood by Green throughout controversial times in his young career.
While many other Warriors players put up bigger stats and get more recognition, Green is seen as the glue that holds it all together.
After anchoring the defense for years, Green has become a staple of the annual Defensive Player of the Year award. He finished second in votes back in 2016, Green broke through and won the award in 2017 after helping the Warriors to their third title in four years.
Despite playing alongside numerous All-NBA talents, Green has found his own niche, doing a little bit of everything. Green’s full talents were on display last season when he averaged 11.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game.
While many argue that Green wouldn’t have the same impact on a different team, we may not find out any time soon regardless.
Draymond Green on his thoughts on contract-extension negotiations: "I'm confident I'll be here for a very long time, so it's not something I'm going into the season thinking about."
