“He definitely should be their top target, he’s the perfect compliment to LeBron,” Pierce said on The Jump.
“It’s more of a realistic chance that they can get two of them.
“They can get Kawhi and Klay but Klay fits with LeBron moreso than anybody.
“There’s going to be a time whee Klay says ‘I have enough championships, it’s my time to get the money and if I get the money and be in L.A. … I already have three of four championships at the time and be maxed out…’
“I don’t think he will get maxed out in Golden State.”
The Lakers acquired James this summer and are already planning bid additions for next year with Thompson and Kawhi Leonard seemingly in the mix.
But earlier this month ESPN insider Ramona Shelburne said she thought Thompson was their bigger priority.
“In terms of who they target next year, it’s whoever wants to come,” she said on ESPNLA Mornings with Keyshawn, LZ and Travis.
“My feeling about it, my sense from just talking to people in and around this (is that) one, it’s a little early, but I think they like Mychal’s boy.
“I think that would be the guy, in terms of skillset and how that would fit.
“Obviously Kawhi, he’s a great player as well, but we’ll see if he stays in Toronto now.
“But I think they like Klay (Thompson).”
